Notas sobre la canción

- La traducción al español del título sería “Hasta que se duerma”

- Until It Sleeps fue interpretada en el concierto con la orquesta de San Francisco en 1999, que salió al mercado bajo el nombre de S&M.

- El tema de la letra de la canción habla acerca del cáncer y cómo mató a la madre del vocalista de la banda, James Hetfield. Al ser los dos profundamente cristianos, negaron la posibilidad de recibir tratamiento alguno creyendo que era el designio de Dios.

- El videoclip de la canción fue dirigido por Samuel Bayer, autor también de vídeos de Nirvana, Green Day o The Smashing Pumpkins). Incluye imágenes grabadas en Los Angeles entre el 6 y el 7 de mayo de 1996. Además, aparecen algunas imágenes que reflejan el sufrimiento humano, supuestamente inspiradas por la obra pictórica de El Bosco.

- En principio, la canción iba a llamarse “F.O.B.D” (acrónimo de Fell on Black Days) en honor a una canción de Soundgarden que llevaba el mismo título y que guarda bastantes similitudes con ésta, especialmente en sus versiones más tempranas. De hecho, la versión demo de la canción Until It Sleeps, antes de ser editada en Load, se llamó así.
